As you may have heard or seen on social media recently, Elias Pettersson returned to Vancouver last week.
While this arrival from his offseason home in Sweden led some fans to believe that Pettersson’s new deal with the Canucks was close to being done, the star forward has already left the city, according to a report from Thomas Drance and Rick Dhaliwal of The Athletic.
Pettersson is currently in Michigan where he is training with fellow unsigned teammate Quinn Hughes.
Hughes and Pettersson share the same representation — J.P. Barry and Pat Brisson of CAA — and thus, the Canucks aren’t likely to get one deal completed without the other being done as well.
The most recent reporting from Elliotte Friedman on an appearance from Donnie and Dhali – The Team suggested that the Canucks have turned their focus to getting both players signed to short term deals.
With training camp just two days away, it will be interesting to see how long these negotiations carry on into the week.
The Canucks will play their first preseason game next Monday against the Calgary Flames at the Abbotsford Centre.
