The Vancouver Canucks are actively searching for head coach Travis Green’s potential replacement, according to a report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
That being said, Friedman stressed that the Canucks’ timeline for pulling the trigger on a move remains unclear, because they haven’t found a suitable candidate yet.
“Don’t guesstimate on a timeline, because there is no set timeline. I think the Canucks have considered some things. They had permission to talk to Claude Julien — they thought about it — I don’t think they’re going down that road. They talked about Scott Walker as head coach, who formerly was in their organization, and works with the Guelph Storm, but I don’t believe they’re going down that road either. I think they are considering some options about what they might do. But I’ve been told that nothing long-term will be done until they are convinced they have the right person or people for those spots. So again, I’m told don’t guess on a timeline, because they’re not rushing to do anything permanent.”
It’s worth noting that according to Thomas Drance of The Athletic, industry chatter suggests that the Canucks were granted permission by the Montreal Canadiens to speak with Julien “a considerable time ago.”
Scott Walker served first as a consultant of player development for the Canucks in 2015, but eventually had his title shifted to director before leaving the organization in 2019.
More to come.
