The baby Flames face-off against the baby Canucks this aft, with guys like Jon Rheault and TJ Brodie looking to build on a couple of strong performances heading into the main camp. Undrafted Edmonton Oil Kings goaltender Cam Lanigan will get the start for Calgary today. The kid had a rough year behind the WHL’s worst team last season and was passed over in the draft as a result. The contest will be largely meaningless for a number of folks on both sides, but you can bet Lanigan will have his game face on.
On the other side, the ‘nucks are still battling with Cody Hodgson and his back ailments. He won’t be in the line-up today, but look out for Jordan Schroeder – a highly touted American prospect who fell below his consensus rank in 2009 due to size and attitude concerns. A shifty, explosive skater with good offensive instincts, Schroeder actually fell to within range of the Flames during that entry draft. As is their habit, howevver, Calgary instead chose to trade down (twice) and then selected a defender (Tim Erixon). There’s no way to tell if Sutter made the right decision just yet, but it’ll be interesting to see Schoeder in action nonetheless.
