The wait is over! Little over a week after the Canucks recalled defenceman Philip Holm from the Utica Comets, they revealed that he will be making his NHL debut tonight against the Western Conference-leading Vegas Golden Knights.
Holm, whom the Canucks signed the last off-season to a one-year deal after his performance at the World Hockey Championships, had spent most of the season with their AHL affiliate Utica Comets. In the AHL, Holm’s refined his game to fit the North American rink and style, and all reports indicate he’s made significant progress to that end.
Though Holm wore the number five in the pre-season, Derrick Pouliot has since taken that number, prompting Holm to switch to 29. Just yesterday Holm was taking reps on the Canucks first unit power play on the right point, though, it should be noted, the Canucks often try things in practice with their man advantage that never make it to games. No word yet on who Holm will partner with tonight.
“He needs to play solid hockey. Win puck battles and get pucks up to our forwards. Play good, sound hockey.” - Green on Holm
