All the marbles. One game, winner takes all. Now or never. Do or die. No matter how you describe it, all the clichés apply. The greatest rivalry in the modern era of hockey will be re-ignited on Sunday when Canada faces the United States with the Olympic gold medal awaiting the winner. It’s a rematch of the 2025 4 Nations Face-off finale and the first time since 2010 in Vancouver that these countries have played with an Olympic gold medal up for grabs. Both teams cruised through the preliminary rounds with three straight victories and have added two more wins in the elimination round to reach this point. Canada edged Finland 3-2 in a semi-final on Friday while the US punched its ticket to the title game with a 6-2 victory over Slovakia.
Start time
The championship game is the final competition of the Milano-Cortina Olympics. It is slated for a 2:10pm face-0ff at the Milano Santagiulia Hockey Arena which makes it a 5:10am start Pacific time. The game will be broadcast on CBC and streamed live on CBC Gem.
Projected lines
Canada remains hopeful that captain Sidney Crosby will be available for the championship game. Crosby tested his injured knee during a closed on-ice session on Saturday and reports from Milano suggest there is a 70% chance the legendary centre will be able to suit up on Sunday. However, Canada’s head coach Jon Cooper shot down any suggestion that Crosby would dress simply to be a bench presence and an inspiration for his teammates. Cooper also ruled out defenceman Josh Morrissey for Sunday’s showdown.

The Americans appear to be fully healthy and ready for their shot at Olympic gold. Tage Thompson, who left Friday’s semi-final, participated in a team practice on Saturday and looks to be good to go on Sunday.

Starting goalies
Just as they did in the 4 Nations finale, Jordan Binnington and Connor Hellebuyck will get the nods for their respective countries. Binnington is 4-0 in these games with a 1.74 GAA, a 91.4% save percentage and a shutout. Meanwhile, Hellebuyck is also 4-0 with a 1.23 GAA and a 94.7% save percentage. He has stopped 80 of the 85 shots he has faced so far in this tournament.
Players to watch
Connor McDavid has taken his game to another level on the biggest stage in the sport. He leads Canada and the Olympics with 13 points. Linemate Macklin Celebrini leads the tournament with five goals and is second in scoring with 10 points. On the American side, Quinn Hughes leads all US skaters with seven points while Jack Hughes, Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel and Matthew Tkachuk all have six points. Jack Hughes, Brady Tkachuk, Tage Thompson and Auston Matthews share the team lead with three goals apiece. In a game where every little advantage could be a factor, Dylan Larkin has been the best face-off man at the Olympics winning 29 of 38 draws (76.3%) while teammate Vincent Trocheck is second in the event at 69.6%.
