A long list of former Canucks found themselves on NHL waivers during the preseason. And as of this morning, we can add another to that crop.

Blue Jackets place Carson Soucy on NHL waivers

On Wednesday morning, the Columbus Blue Jackets placed former Canucks defenceman Carson Soucy on NHL waivers.
After not finding a new home during the summer ahead of the 2026-27 season, Soucy signed a professional tryout contract with the Blue Jackets. He played two preseason games for the Blue Jackets this year, registering 11 penalty minutes and two shots on goal, while averaging 16:25 minutes of ice time. These efforts earned Soucy an NHL deal in Columbus, inking a one-year, one-way, $1.15 million contract on opening night of the NHL season.
The 6’5″, 212-lb left-shot defenceman suited up in seven of the Blue Jackets’ 10 games this season. In his outings, Soucy has a lone assist, four penalty minutes, five shots on goal, four blocks, and 17 hits, with a minus-five rating in 14:45 of average ice time.
If unclaimed, Soucy will now return to the Blue Jackets’ AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters. He will join Corson Ceulemans, Colton White, Charlie Elick, Boston Buckberger, Adam Clendening, Guillaume Richard, and Luca Marrelli.
Soucy spent one and a half seasons of his three-year contract with the Canucks. He formed a shutdown pairing with Tyler Myers in the 2023-24 season that helped the Canucks win 50 games, win the Pacific Division, beat the Nashville Predators in the playoffs, and come within one goal of the Western Conference Finals against the Edmonton Oilers.
The following season, however, was a struggle for Soucy. His defensive play fell off a cliff, and he was traded to the New York Rangers at the NHL trade deadline for a 2025 third-round pick (Kieren Dervin). Fast forward one year later, and Soucy was flipped across to Long Island and in-city rival New York Islanders for another third-round pick. He played 30 games with the Islanders, but was not brought back by the club this offseason.
In 99 games with the Canucks, Soucy scored five goals and 11 assists for 16 points. He had 54 penalty minutes, averaged 18:01 per night, and finished with a minus-three rating.
