The National Hockey League has fined Vancouver Canucks defenceman $2,500 for slashing Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid. The league’s Department of Player Safety announced the disciplinary action against Myers on Sunday morning.

Halfway through the third period in the Canucks’ Saturday night matchup in Edmonton, Myers engaged with McDavid in the right circle and got his stick in between his legs. Myers was not penalized for this act, but took a delay of game penalty when he sent the puck over the glass in the defensive zone.

The Canucks went on to kill the penalty – as they did for the other four penalties. And as time expired on Myers penalty, Thatcher Demko made one of the best saves of this young season on Leon Draisaitl at the side of the net:

Myers is the eldest Canuck (35) on the roster. This marks his seventh season in Vancouver, appearing in 433 games, scoring 25 goals and 105 assists for 140 points. Through two games this season, Myers has been held off the scoresheet, with two shots on goal, five hits, seven blocks and averages the third most ice time (19:43) on the Canucks roster – trailing Quinn Hughes (25:33) and Filip Hronek (24:36).

This is the third time Myers has been fined in the NHL. His first fine came in 2016 when he cross-checked Tommy Wingels, the second came in 2024 when he elbowed Sean Kuraly, and now this one for slashing Connor McDavid. His three fine’s have cost him $12,500.

The 6’8″ defenceman has also been suspended three times in his career – all of which were for three games. The first two came in 2012 (boarding on Scott Gomez) and 2014 (illegal check to the head on Dainius Zubrus), with the most recent suspension coming in January of this year, when he cross-checked Oilers defenceman Evan Bouchard up high.

Ex-Canucks defenceman Ian Cole – who now plays for the Utah Mammoth – was also fined $2,500 on Sunday for a “dangerous trip” in the Mammoth’s Saturday night matchup against the Nashville Predators.

With Myers just being fined for this act and not suspended, he will be able to suit up in Monday’s contest against the St. Louis Blues.
