On today’s episode of Canucks Conversation, we were joined by 2023 NHL Entry Draft eligible prospect David Reinbacher. The 6’2 right shot defenceman is one of the best options for the Canucks to select if he’s still there at 11th overall.
He’s been one of the fastest risers as the draft approaches, as many scouting outlets didn’t have him near the top ten in their rankings at the start of the year. He’s big, physical, and moves the puck very well, and people have now taken notice. Many believe he’s a lock to go in the top ten of the draft, but others think he’ll be there for the taking when the Canucks take the stage to select at 11th overall.
We asked Reinbacher, who’s in Finland with Team Austria for the World Championships right now, about the comparisons he’s been getting from scouts to Detroit Red Wings defenceman Moritz Seider. Reinbacher hadn’t heard that comparison before, and explained why he doesn’t think it’s an accurate one.
“It’s nice to be compared to a big guy like him,” said Reinbacher. “But I would say I’m not the [type of] guy who plays like him. He plays a little bit harder than me, he’s a little bit higher, stronger, I wouldn’t say I’m the same playing [style] as him.”
Reinbacher spoke about his idol Roman Josi as well. We also got his answer to a number of speed round questions! Watch the full interview below!
