I’m of the belief that even the most inconsequential of transactions, events and whatever you may have leaguewide affects every team, at every level, to some extent. Newton’s law and so on.
With that in mind, there just simply isn’t enough time or resources to give them all the attention they deserve in this space. Ideally, though, one can scratch the surface of these events – linked directly to the Vancouver Canucks or otherwise – and examine their far-reaching impact to Roger’s Arena and beyond.
With that, here are my Monday Morning Musings for the week that was.
Canucks Army did a Reddit AMA:

Zack Kassian’s not-so-triumphant return:
Kassian made his return to the NHL, playing in six games for the Edmonton Oilers. The Kassquatch is now donning Todd Bertuzzi’s old number 44 and even went so far as to admit it was a tribute to the former Vancouver star. Pretty good trolling, if you ask me.
The Oilers reassigned Kassian to Bakersfield in the AHL this Sunday. In his six games at the NHL level, Kassian had a goal and assist, good for two points. I would just love to see Kassian make it in the NHL. His hockey sense is unreal and he seems like a nice enough guy. This is a start, anyways.
Loui Eriksson is on the trading block:
Now, obviously, I’m not suggesting that the Canucks should make a play for Eriksson at this moment. The cost would be super prohibitive to their long-term goal of building a Stanley Cup winner. Seeing his name in the rumour mill was enough to get the wheels turning, though.
The Sedins have gone on record saying that Eriksson would be their ideal linemate. The reason Eriksson is on the block is because he’s a pending UFA. Has me wondering if this is a player the Canucks could take a run at in free agency. If they’re serious about this competing for a playoff spot thing, he’d certainly help the cause.
Bo Horvat for Jonathan Drouin:
Apparently the Canucks did their due diligence on Drouin, inquiring on the disgruntled Lightning winger. The asking cost included Bo Horvat. Would I trade Horvat for Drouin, straight up? I lean towards yes.
Why exactly are the Canucks catering to Brandon Prust?
I can’t figure this one out for the life of me. Prust throws a hissy fit in the lead up to the Canucks games against the Rangers and that’s good enough to force Jake Virtanen to the press box for a second consecutive game. Doing the rough math and not accounting for injuries, Prust has likely played the Rangers about 25 times since leaving in free agency over three years ago. Talk about struggling to get over your ex.
