Markus Granlund to undergo wrist surgery and miss remainder of season

It was announced this morning by the Canucks that forward Markus Granlund would undergo wrist surgery and miss the remainder of the 2016-17 campaign.
Canucks GM Jim Benning provided some more insight on the young Finnish forward’s injury within the press release:
“Markus has had an ongoing wrist injury which we’ve treated through regular maintenance and rehabilitation,” said Benning. “Our Canucks medical team and Markus believe that surgery is the best course of action for his long-term health and by having the procedure now it will allow him to have more time to rehabilitate and work out in preparation for next season. Markus is an important part of our team and we are confident he’ll have a full recovery.”
Granlund has had a great first full season with the Canucks, and will end the year with 19 goals and 13 assists in 69 games. Unfortunately, he will be unable to reach the 20 goal plateau.

Those point totals are even more impressive given that Granlund has been battling this injury for some time.
Granlund is signed for another year with a cap hit of $900,000.
