“I see no changes wake up in the morning, and I ask myself, is a life worth living should I blast myself? I’m tired of bein’ poor and even worse I’m black”-Tupac Shakur.
Tupac’s “changes” was released in 1998, over 20 years ago, and this song is so relevant today.
I can’t breathe.
Such powerful words, and for George Floyd, his last. What gives someone the right to end someone’s life? What gives someone the right to shoot a man several times in the back with his kids in the car? What gives someone the right to shoot a 27-year-old who was in their bedroom in their own house?
And for those people who say “oh he was on drugs, he had a gun” or other bullshit, the simple question I ask of you is if he was white, would he have gotten killed or shot?
The answer is NO.
This is what people are fighting for, justice, equality, not racially discriminating or profiling each other, but yet here we are in 2020, and basic human rights are still not there. People are people, we all breathe, and we all bleed.
Let’s not kid ourselves. This isn’t just a problem in the United States; its a global issue.
How is it that in 2020 this shit is still going on. Those who say keep politics out of sports or “shut up and dribble” please DM me and tell me how standing up for what’s right is bothering you.
It’s time for the NHL to start taking the initiative instead of taking a back seat. I’m a visible minority, and I had no one who was Indian to look up to and say, “he made it in hockey I can too,” in any aspect of the game. With the Hockey Diversity Alliance (HDA), hopefully, this creates change for the next generation, and we see more diversity within teams organizations in the years to come.
It’s time to get out of our comfort zone and demand change.
This is bigger than sports, so how do we change it?
