Forward Lane Pederson has been claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets off of waivers. Yesterday, the Vancouver Canucks placed Pederson on waivers with hopes of getting him playing time with the Abbotsford Canucks in the AHL.
A player can’t be sent down until he clears waivers, which is why Pederson was eligible to play in the Canucks’ game on Friday night against Columbus, a game Vancouver went on to win by a final score of 5-2. In that win, Pederson featured on Elias Pettersson’s wing, as he had earlier this season under former bench boss Bruce Boudreau.
Pederson earned a call-up to Vancouver after scoring 17 goals in 18 AHL games with the Abbotsford Canucks. Upon being recalled, Pederson got a nice little run of games alongside Pettersson, where he didn’t look especially out of place. Through 10 games with Vancouver, Pederson tallied one goal and two assists. All of Pederson’s points came while playing alongside Pettersson.
Pederson arrived in Vancouver alongside Ethan Bear when the Canucks struck a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes earlier in the season, sending back a fifth-round pick in the process.
Through 55 career NHL games, the 25-year-old Pederson has tallied two goals and six assists. Pederson now gets a shot to continue his career at the NHL level as a member of the Blue Jackets.
