So long Brendan Leipsic.
Yesterday, the Vancouver Canucks placed the speedy winger on waivers with hopes of him getting to Utica but the Los Angeles Kings had other ideas
The Kings were first in waiver priority and after using that position to claim Nikita Scherbak from the Montreal Canadiens, they did it again here with Leipsic. The Kings have been struggling to generate offence and lack depth within the organization to rectify that issue, so adding some players like Scherbak and Leipsic helps them to try to rectify that issue. It will be interesting to see how both of those players will be inserted in the Kings lineup.
The thought behind placing Leipsic on waivers was laid out in the report yesterday, but it is unfortunate that the Canucks have lost him for nothing. It does hurt their overall depth for this season despite Leipsic not generating a lot of offence. With that being said, it does clear a path for a younger prospect to seize a spot later in the season, now it’s just a matter of waiting for that to happen.
The Canucks had acquired Leipsic for Philip Holm at last years trade deadline and with Holm now playing in the KHL, the Canucks aren’t really further behind or ahead of where they were before.
