It’s just another day in the life of Jonathan Lekkerimäki and he seems to be loving his return to the SHL.
Lekkerimäki scored for the third game in a row as he continued to keep up a strong scoring pace.
This was Lekkerimäki’s first goal at even strength as he sliced into the slot and gave himself enough room to get off his tremendous wrist shot that ultimately became the game-winning goal in Örebro’s third game of the season.
Lekkerimäki joined some great company, becoming only the third U20 player to score in three consecutive SHL games. Lekkerimäki joins Thomas Gradin, former Canucks captain Markus Näslund and hall of fame Peter Forsberg in the prestigious club of scoring three-in-a-row to start the season in the SHL as a junior.
Lekkerimäki finished the game with 12:54 of ice time, one goal, two shots on net and finished the game with a +1.
Elias Pettersson (D-Petey) was in the lineup for Örebro but he did not receive a shift in the game. D-Petey was listed as the seventh defenceman in the game but it seems like he is getting more ice time in the J20 league right now.
Örebro is back in action on Saturday and we will continue to follow along as Lekkerimäki is scoring at an incredible rate. Last season, it took until January 18th for Lekkerimäki to tally up three goals in the Allsvenskan league, so you can see that he is clearly enjoying his return to the SHL.
Lekkerimäki scored seven goals in 26 SHL games during his draft year of the 2021-22 season. He sure looks like he is going to surpass those totals from the views of his hot start in the early stages of the 2023-24 year.
