Ilya Mikheyev leaves Vancouver Canucks training camp for ‘personal reasons’

There was a big question on the opening day of Canucks training camp about if Ilya Mikheyev has fully recovered from his ACL surgery last year.
When asked about Mikheyev’s status for the opening day of Canucks training camp, General Manager Patrik Allvin said yesterday that Mikheyev would be in a non-contact jersey for camp and that he would be skating in the third group — which is typically full of junior players or players on AHL contracts.
Now, we will not have to question anything, (or will we?) as the Canucks sent out a tweet early Thursday morning saying that Ilya Mikheyev has left camp for personal reasons.
There were questions about Mikheyev’s full availability and if he would be able to participate in preseason games or if he would need more time.
As of now, the team has no more to comment about the ‘personal reasons’ that have caused Mikheyev to leave training camp.
Training camp takes place from Thursday to Sunday down in Victoria at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The team is broken into three groups and looks like the first two groups are the two with the most NHLers among them.
We’ve got myself, as well as David Quadrelli here in Victoria to cover the camp. Keep checking up on CanucksArmy throughout the day, as Quads will be updating his running mailbag and has already approached John Shorthouse to be a part of his mailbag.
Lots more to come today and throughout the weekend!
UPDATE 10:37 AM: Matt Sekeres of Sekeres and Price is reporting that Mikheyev’s agent Dan Milstein expects him to return to camp in a few days and says the matter that’s keeping Mikheyev from camp is “nothing serious.”
