The NHL Trade Deadline is less than a week away, and there have already been some big names on the move. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman touched on what he’s hearing regarding the Vancouver Canucks and what their status is as we approach the March 7 deadline:
“The Canucks have a situation where they’re looking to add to their forward group. Whether it’s now, or it’s later. It’s something they’re looking at and seeing what they could do.”
The Canucks’ offence has dried up since the NHL resumed after the 4 Nations Face-off. They have just one overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings in four games since returning, scoring seven goals in those games. Elias Pettersson (F), Filip Hronek, Marcus Pettersson, Teddy Blueger and Elias Pettersson (D) are the only Canuck players to be held without a point during that span.
Once Quinn Hughes returned to the lineup on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Kings, the team dressed 11 forwards and seven defencemen. The team has room to add an impact forward to this group.
According to Daily Faceoff’s Trade Targets board, here are Frank Seravalli’s top-10 forwards available:
Brock Nelson, Scott Laughton, Brandon Tanev, Jake Evans, Casey Mittlestadt, Rickard Rakell, Kyle Palmieri, Joel Armia, Ryan Donato and JJ Peterka – Gustav Nyquist is on the board but was traded earlier on Saturday.
Friedman also provided an update on Brock Boeser:
“When it comes to Brock Boeser, it was reported this week that earlier this year, there was a 5×8 offer that was not taken. I understand that was earlier in the season, in the first half of the year. I don’t think there has been talks for a while. We’ll see where this goes over the next few days, but I think the team and player are expecting all options to be open. Whether it’s trade, keep or sign, I don’t think either side has a great idea on how this is going to unfold.”
The Canucks have just two games to decide what type of forward this team needs before the March 7 Trade Deadline.
