Friday Roundtable: Which Jersey/Logo Reigns Supreme

In an effort to draw attention away from the current product, the Canucks are invoking visions of old by donning the “Flying Skate” jersey next Saturday when they play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
That jersey has always held a special place in the hearts of Canucks fans. It signifies the prosperous years of the nineties and immediately conjures memories of all-time greats like Pavel Bure, Trevor Linden and Kirk McLean.
So, I asked the Canucks Army writers, which jersey and or logo was their favourite…
Jeff Veillete
It’s the skate. No ifs, ands or buts. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it as a kid; at one point I was certain it was a bowl of spaghetti, but I did know that it looked bold, in your face, and had a wicked colour scheme.
Eventually, I grew up and discovered what the logo was trying to be, and that made me appreciate it even more. It’s complicated yet simplistic at the same time; a product of its era yet timeless at once. Relative to when it was made, it might be up there with the best logos in league history.
Even the colour scheme is something that makes sense together yet separates it from the rest of the league. I really hope the team incorporates it more long-term

Well, it depends. From a pure logo standpoint, it’s hard to argue against the flying skate. That thing’s rad.
From a uniform standpoint, though, I’ve always been partial to the maroon Millionaires jersey. Of all the old sweater designs – across any team, actually – it remains my absolute favorite, hands down. Something about the color and the aesthetics of it are just timeless, and I dare you to argue differently. Increase scoring.

I’ve always been partial to the stick-in-rink. It’s simple and iconic, and manages to pay homage to the the franchise’s history even while its recent reintroduction also evokes recent memories of the most successful and dominant Canucks team ever.

Looking at the jersey in totality, I lean towards the current Orca just because of the colour scheme. The blue, green and white is perfectly west coast. It fits with Seahawks, matches the blue and white of the Whitecaps. The colours reflect our beautiful mountains, trees and water. I like the skate jersey, but the colour scheme just isn’t Pacific Northwest and is a commonly used colour pattern.
Now, if they could rid of the ‘Vancouver’ over the Orca, I would be down with it. But would probably still look weird.

I grew up with the skate logo. The design was so forward and the colors at the time were cool! It didn’t hurt that the team wearing those jerseys were pretty fun to watch at the pinnacle of its fame. It will always be #mycanucks and the reason I became a fan. It was a welcome sight after the infamous V was put to rest. I would love to see the skate make a return in the new color scheme, not the same jersey but something close. We bled the stick in rink logo dry so it wouldn’t hurt to throw a curve ball.
The current logo isn’t great but it is our longest tenured one so if nothing changes…that would be a first for this team

Best colour scheme is definitely the current one, best socks are the 94-era socks, and best logo is the stick in link cause it’s simple and iconic.

I’ve grown up with the orca. So it has to be that for me. If we are talking pure cool design and beauty I love the spaghetti skate. But the orca symbolizes the west coast express and the glory days for me. It was donned by Linden, Naslund, the Sedins and Luongo, It was donned when they reached the finals and its worn by people every day across the city. So from a symbol standpoint it’s the orca.

Stick in rink. Not even close for me. The colours are great, the logo is simple but loaded with great subtleties and it kickstarted forty plus years of suffering. This isn’t subjective. I am right.
