Alright, here’s my plan. You burn down Rogers Arena. Like, you specifically; I live too far away and don’t have an easy getaway route. Once that happens, the Canucks can’t play at home, and if they can’t play at home, they can’t lose!
..right? Anyway, some of you had questions, and I have attempts at answers. Let’s get to it!
@TheJayBear asked: Just how long is the shelf life of Desjardins?
I don’t think that this is something that we can judge just yet. Of course, nobody is happy with the last few losses, but Desjardins hasn’t done anything alarming over a long period that would force him to the hot seat just yet. Look at a coach like Barry Trotz, who coached a bad Predators team to equally bad results for years. The bosses saw it through, trusting in his growth, and he ended up staying with the Preds for over a decade and a half.
Not saying Desjardins will be the same, but it’s too early without an obvious reasoning.
@ReubenHub asked: Does Willie D know that the preseason is over?
Of course Willie knows that the preseason is over. He’s got a real good calendar that he leaves on his fridge to tell him the schedule, and it says that it’s the regular season. He’s done a real good job keeping up with it, though for some reason, the magnet is covering Yannick Weber’s face..
@jeremydavis89 asked: Is John Tortorella a double agent? He got us Virtanen, a second round pick… is Ryan Johansen next?
If you’re impressed by Torts’ contributions to the “Make Up For Failure” double-agent society of Vancouver, you should see what some of the others have done. Mats Sundin convinced the Leafs to build a statue of him to further distract the team and the fans from trying to make their roster better. When Dan Cloutier teaches non-Canucks goaltenders, he has them study video footage of himself. Don’t get me started on Mark Messier’s plan to make Connor McDavid run away from North America with these constant phone calls.
@DubiousRhino asked: The Canucks don’t look great, but neither does the Pacific. Could we see a playoff berth similar to last year?
I don’t think so. The Flames’ drop was expected to some extent, but the Ducks seem to be feeling some horrible puck luck right now. The Sharks look as good as people expected, and the Kings seem to be getting the hang of everything; it wouldn’t be a shock to see the three California teams atop the division, with the Central getting the crossover.
Crazy things can happen, though. It’s still very early.
