After a ridiculous number of injuries, the Vancouver Canucks are beginning to get healthier.
Canucks Captain Quinn Hughes rejoined his team in Nashville for Sunday’s practice session and will make his return to the lineup on Monday night.
He met with the media ahead of their clash against the Nashville Predators to discuss his return:
“I feel good. I’m excited to play.
“Obviously, it’s the worst missing games. I felt really good coming into the season, too. It is what it is. I think with the schedule, everyone’s going to be going through things, but I’m just excited to be back.”
Head Coach Adam Foote discussed how crucial it is to get their captain back after his four-game absence, how his team has hung in there despite all the injuries and provided a bit of an update on Conor Garland and Teddy Blueger:
“It’s great. I mean, [our] guys have been hanging on. It’s no secret what’s been going on with our team. We’re getting through it. Guys are getting better through the process. We get Huggy back, and I know Garly’s close, and Blueger is the next one probably back. It’s nice that we’re getting guys playing good minutes for us and getting reps. We’re facing teams that are very desperate — Minnesota and St. Louis — and they’ve been attacking us hard, and we’re facing it. We’re getting better.”
It’s a bit of an odd road trip for the Canucks, as they closed out their latest road trip against the Predators two weeks ago, and now will do the same tonight. However, Hughes and Foote are hoping for a better outcome than that 2-1 loss in the previous match:
“We’ve been playing hard,” Hughes shared. “Obviously, two points would be nice, but we’ll just focus on the first 20 and try to play fast and apply pressure on them.”
“They’re going to play hard,” Foote explained. “They’re going to play a gritty game. Their Captain is out, so we’ve got to make sure that we’re on them and worry about what we’re doing. It’s nice that we get Huggy back tonight.”
