Edmonton Oilers defenceman Duncan Keith is set to announce his retirement, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
Keith, 38, spent 16 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, and the past season — his last in the NHL — with the Edmonton Oilers as he wanted to be closer to his family, who reside in British Columbia.
As a result of his retirement, Chicago will be hit with a cap recapture penalty, costing them $5,538,462 in 2022-23, and $1,938,456 in 2023-24.
The Vancouver Canucks were hit with a recapture penalty that lasted three seasons when Roberto Luongo announced his retirement, and were penalized $3.03 million per season for the last three seasons.
2022-23 will mark the first season in which the Luongo recapture penalty is off the Canucks’ books.
