> Anyone miss the Wellwood/Bernier connection of last year? Our third line was dominant at ES and both Malhotra and Hansen played admirably on the PK. Malhotra connected on a SHG and added a PPG later in the third. This game was a good example of why Gillis made bottom six depth a priority over the summer.
> Kesler was the night’s first star (2 assists) but you can see plainly the second line struggles, Raymond especially with his team-worst -4. Bertuzzi’s line took it to them, but Kesler made it count when it mattered.
> The defense was just above or right below even, something you’d expect from facing Detroit. A strong game for Edler in particular who saw plenty of Zetterberg and Datsyuk but managed to be even at ES and cashed in on an insurance PPG midway though the third.
(Thanks again to Passive Voice for the assistance)
