The Canucks management team likes to get their work done on Thursday.
Last week Gillis and co. completed minor deals with Defenseman Alexander Sulzer and Goaltender Matt Climie. This afternoon, they inked potential fourth line winger Mike Duco to a contract. As of this writing, the terms of the deal were unavailable, but here’s the media release from Canucks.com.
Last weekend the Canucks traded KHL-bound scoring winger Sergie Shirokov to the Panthers in exchange for future thirty goal scorer Mike Duco. At first the acquisition of the former Kitchener Ranger was met with minimal excitement. That changed, however, when passittobulis uncovered some controversial tweets Duco had written criticizing the Sedins, and mocking Luongo during the Canucks playoff run.
Duco has since deleted his account and offered an apology for his comments. The twenty-four year old scored 20 goals in the AHL last season, shooting 16.3%. He’s appeared in 12 NHL games in his career and has yet to record his first NHL point, while averaging five penalty minutes per game.
