Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin had this to say about the Assistant coach search and how they landed on Švejkovský.
&#8220;After exploring all of our options, it became clear very quickly that the best candidate was already in our organization. The ability to promote from within will help us in the transition, as Yogi has a great understanding of our systems and the way we want to play.&#8221;
Švejkovský spent the last two seasons as the skills coach for the Vancouver and <a href="https://canucksarmy.com/news/list-unsigned-prospects-vancouver-canucks-could-target-summer">Abbotsford Canucks</a> for his first crack as the Assistant to the bench boss, Rick Tocchet.
&#8220;Since I arrived in Vancouver, I have been very impressed with Yogi&#8217;s work ethic and willingness to do anything and everything to help us become a better team,&#8221; Tocchet said.
Švejkovský was a former first-round draft pick of the Washington Capitals in the 1996 draft and had a four-year NHL career, scoring 23 goals and 42 points in 113 games. Unfortunately, his career was cut short due to post-concussion syndrome in 2002.
Švejkovský didn&#8217;t let that stop him from getting away from the sport. Yogi has been involved in the Vancouver area, helping the youth with various power skating and skills drills camps. He also was the Director of Hockey Operations for the Seafair Minor Hockey Association and Program Director of the BC Bears, AAA spring hockey association.
The club also announces that Canucks legends Henrik and Daniel Sedin receive enhanced coaching roles, being more a part of the day-to-day coaching activities in Vancouver and Abbotsford.

Daniel and Henrik Sedin returned to the Canucks organization in the 2021 offseason, serving within hockey operations as special advisors to the General Manager. The brothers were then promoted to the organization&#8217;s player development department in 2022.
&#8220;Daniel and Henrik have also had a seat at the table and I have leaned on them more and more as the year went on. Their knowledge and ability to teach the game is a huge plus, and they fit in extremely well with our group.&#8221;
The twins and Yogi now pivot to more of a hands-on approach with the rest of the coaching staff as they look to help improve the future of the Vancouver Canucks.
