The Vancouver Canucks have added to their stable of NHL-capable depth defenders by inking former Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks defenseman Taylor Fedun to a one-year contract. Though we don’t have any confirmation of this, the Utica Comets sent out a press release announcing the deal, so we can safely assume that this is a two-way contract.
Fedun, 27, is a right-handed shooter who is a dependable point producer in the American League (although not quite of Bobby Sanguinetti’s caliber) and has 11 games of NHL experience – including seven games with the Sharks last season.
The Edmonton Alta. native had his career nearly derailed when he broke his femur during a gruesome touch-icing incident four years ago. You can read more about his road back to hockey at Grantland.com.
