Canucks sign defenceman Chad Billins

Jul 1, 2016, 14:13 EDTUpdated:
The Vancouver Canucks have signed 27 year old defenceman Chad Billins to a one year, two way contract.
The rearguard previous played for the Abbotsford Heat and Calgary Flames before heading to the KHL and SHL for the past two seasons.
This move is made to provide depth in Utica and add a left side defenceman to the young group in Utica.
Erik Piri from elite prospects has a scouting report on Billins:
Billins is a defenseman with good two-ability. Moves well and has fine hockey sense, as well. Contributes offensively with fine passing skills. Is somewhat lacking in size, though, which can be a problem against big forwards.
He had a very good season for Linkoping in the SHL last year – where he posted 7 goals and 24 points in 50 games. The left handed defenceman had a very good season fro Abbotsford in 2013-14 where had 41 points in 65 games, and then had 10 games with the Flames where he posted 3 assists.
With Taylor Fedun signing with Buffalo earlier today, Billins fills the void of a veteran AHL defencman who may see a call up if injuries get bad in Vancouver.
