The Canucks announced this morning that they inked 2017 6th round pick Petrus Palmu to a three-year entry-level contract.

Palmu’s selection at the 2017 draft was lauded by many for defying the team’s traditional preference of drafting for size and intangibles in the later rounds. The Canucks have been banging the speed and skill drum for a while now, and there’s perhaps no pick that encompasses the adoption of this mantra better than Palmu’s.
Standing at just five-foot-seven, the team hoped that Palmu’s quickness and offensive instincts would allow him to transcend his diminutive size.
The gamble appears to have paid off in spades, with Palmu registering 17 goals and 36 points in 59 games for TPS Turku en route to winning the SM-Liiga rookie of the year title.

Expect the 20-year-old winger to start the season with the Comets in the AHL.
