Vancouver Canucks forward Vasily Podkolzin will not return to tonight’s game, the club announced early in the second period.
Podkolzin departed late in the first period as a result of dropping the gloves with AJ Greer after the Bruins’ forward caught Podkolzin with a high hit.
Podkolzin and AJ Greer drop the gloves, looks like Podz got split open at some point. #Canucks
Greer was challenged by Luke Schenn earlier in the period but didn’t oblige, and after Podkolzin exited the game, Schenn appeared to have words for the Boston forward:
Luke Schenn challenges A.J. Greer for injuring Podkolzin. Greer cowardly won't take on a guy he doesn't have a size advantage against. #Canucks
The exact nature or severity of Podkolzin’s injury is not known at this time, but blood could be seen both in person and on the broadcast.
Through 15 games this season, Podkolzin has three assists.
More to come post game when we hear from head coach Bruce Boudreau.
