The Vancouver Canucks continued to feed the revolving doors of the defensive depth chart today, by calling up hulking 22-year-old Andrey Pedan from the Utica Comets.
The move makes Pedan the third defenceman called up by the Canucks this season. Alex Biega came up at the beginning of the month after Chris Tanev busted up his finger and Taylor Fedun came in to take Ben Hutton’s place this weekend. Fedun was reassigned to Utica before playing a game.
Pedan is tied with Jordan Subban for most points scored by a Comets defenceman, picking up a goal and six assists in 15 games. Nearly half of these points came on October 30th, a night where he picked up his goal and two of his helpers against the Binghamton Senators. Pedan’s most frequent linemate has been the previously Taylor Fedun.
Originally drafted by the New York Islanders, Pedan was acquired in November 2014 for Alex Mallet and a third round pick. The 6’5 left-handed shooter is known for his relentlessness and his love for throwing around his body.
Pedan could play his first NHL game as Wednesday when the Canucks take on the Minnesota Wild.
