The Canucks made a roster move earlier today, reassigning Anton Rodin to the Utica Comets.
The move comes just four days after the Canucks recalled Rodin from the AHL in the wake of the Brock Boeser foot contusion which forced him from the Canucks lineup for Monday’s match against the Dallas Stars.
Rodin was available to the Canucks for two games, though they opted to use Jayson Megna in Monday’s contest instead of the Swedish winger with offensive bona fides. In three games with the Utica Comets this season, Rodin has two assists.
Rumours have circulated that Rodin’s contract carries a European out clause in the event that he didn’t make the Canucks out of training camp. The fact that he remains with the Comets in spite of a difficult roster crunch based on the veteran maximum speaks to his willingness to spend the year in North America to keep his dream of an NHL career alive.
This won’t be the recall that sets in motion Rodin’s NHL career. But that door hasn’t closed yet, and Rodin remains committed to North America and one day breaking through to the NHL.
