Canucks Make Another Round of Cuts

Canucks head coach Travis Green said after last night’s 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers that another round of cuts was coming in the following day. Well, he’s a man of his word, clearly, as the Canucks have reassigned another three players to the Utica Comets as of this morning.
Today, it’s Jayson Megna, Michael Chaput and Richard Bachman who are on their way down to the Comets, assuming they clear waivers, that is.
Last season, Chaput and Megna played unfortunately significant roles for the Canucks. In spite of their original billing as AHL depth, both were regulars by about November for the Canucks. In the case of Megna, that would often lead to time in the Canucks’ top six or on the top unit power play. Chaput was primarily a fourth line checker, and a fairly good one at that, though he also played a few games alongside the Sedin twins.
This year, I’d expect both to clear waivers, report to the Comets and play in their top six. Bachman should make it through as well, and will likely backup for Thatcher Demko. That is probably where they should be, too.
