Canucks invite defenceman Dylan Plouffe to training camp

According to Sportsnet’s Rick Dhaliwal, the Canucks have invited Dylan Plouffe of the Vancouver Giants to training camp.
Plouffe had originally signed a PTO with the Florida Panthers, but the team’s training camp was cancelled because of Hurricane Irma. As a result, Plouffe was granted permission from the league to attend the Canucks’ camp instead.
This year was Plouffe’s draft year, but his name wasn’t called by any of the 31 teams back in June. The 6’0, left-handed defenceman has played two full seasons for the Giants, serving as more of a defensive defenceman than an offensive catalyst. He skates well and is positionally sound, but doesn’t have overwhelming tools that jump out at you.
It’s obviously very, very unlikely that Plouffe cracks the Canucks out of camp. This invitation serves largely as a way to give the Canucks an extra body at camp, and it provides an opportunity to see how a prospect in the team’s backyard fares against higher competition. If Plouffe plays well and impresses, there’s a chance they sign the undrafted defenceman to a contract down the road.
Who knows. But it’s a PTO, and as we know, there’s absolutely zero risk involved.
Ty Ronning (Rangers), Dylan Plouffe (Florida), Brendan Semchuk (Washington), Matt Barberis (Vancouver) and Brad Morrison (Calgary).
.@WHLGiants will be missing five players to NHL camps next week, when they host a preseason tournament at the @LangleyEvents.
