THE INTRO
Tonight, the Canucks start back at 0-0 when the puck drops. It’s a long way from the absolute letdown on Friday when they blew a 5-1 lead against the Washington Capitals. Playing not to lose is a lot different than playing to win and the Canucks got a quick lesson in the former. There is a lot to look forward to tonight. A defense that contributes, three productive forward lines and a power-play that is slowly becoming the talk of the league.
Let’s Do This!™

LINEUPS
Adam Gaudette was recalled yesterday from Utica but don’t expect him to play. Tyler Motte aka Charlie Hustle is out at least a week with a lower-body injury. Loui Eriksson may get his chance to fly once again. I don’t even remember what number he wears.
Jacob Markstrom had a bit of a doozy against the Capitals on Friday. He wasn’t the reason they lost but he wasn’t doing himself any favours either. Hard to imagine him sitting this one out.

Vincent Trocheck is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. He did not play against the Flames or the Oilers so it’s unlikely he’s ready for tonight’s game. Stay tuned.
Florida was all over the Oilers last night in a 6-2 victory so they’ll be riding high this evening.
He gets paid like a guy who has a yacht so Sergei Bobrovsky is the likely starter for the Panthers tonight. But the fact he played last night in Edmonton means Samuel Montembeault will get the nod. Those back-to-backs, brutal.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
- Quinn Hughes has looked every bit as comfortable as any other player on the Canucks top power-play unit. Travis Green may need to trust the players that he has to get the job done. He just needs to teach them how to do math now. Hopefully, the Panthers don’t have the ability to score six goals (they’ve done it twice so far)
- Florida has allowed 38 goals thus far while your Vancouver Canucks, despite a few hiccups, have only surrendered 24. With Bobrovsky on the bench tonight, this may be the Canucks chance to unleash the fury they’ve buried.
- Jonathan Huberdeau and Alexander Barkov both have 13 points to start the season, good enough for 12th in the league. J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson are tied with 11 points. This game could be close, it could also end 7-6 in overtime. The Panthers have allowed a ton of goals but they’ve been scoring a bunch too! The Canucks have met their match tonight.
- Vancouver took both games last season against Florida by a combined score of 8-3. There was a hit by Mike Matheson that took Pettersson out of the game and out of the lineup for a little bit of time, but he still won the Calder so it’s ok now. The Canucks are a better team than they were a season ago so it could be messy this time around.
- Tonight the Canucks will face yet another defenseman tearing up the NHL. Alexander Barkov is the latest star doing so. He has 10 even-strength assists, one behind John Carlson who Vancouver played on Friday. If the Panthers score, there’s a good chance Barkov will be in on it.

MY 94 CENTS
The Canucks needed a reminder that they have a long way to go before they can hang with the elite teams. A 5-1 lead doesn’t mean a whole lot when you’re playing against Alex Ovechkin. Tonight, the Panthers are back but this time without Roberto Luongo. There will be a little less “feels” to the game but the fire that lives in a lot of Canucks fans will want to come back and see how their team rebounds from an embarrassing loss.
I mean, Tim Schaller already has three goals. You know you want to see how this one ends.
AND ANOTHER THING…
Good to see Gudbranson and Sbisa got another shot. Really great stuff!
splits a couple of familiar names to #Canucks fans
come for Nic Roy's first NHL goal stay for his 14/10 board jump 😆
