THE INTRO
Tonight the Vancouver Canucks put all their petty bu take on the Arizona Coyotes in a pivotal Pacific Division matchup that will be chalked up to a “four-point game”. Vancouver has played below their talent level lately and have handed games to their opponents in pretty epic fashion. If the playoffs are a realistic goal for the blue and green they’ll step up tonight and blow the doors off the Coyotes, preferably in the first period.
The games in hand have almost evaporated for the Canucks so every game here on out will be of the utmost importance.

LINEUPS
The Canucks practice yesterday was a five-alarm fire online but it will probably act as a smokescreen for Quinn Hughes and Tyler Myers. Rest days will come in handy as it gets closer and closer to the playoffs. No new information for Brock Boeser or Jacob Markstrom but the Canucks did call up Guillaume Brisebois (I have his rookie card) and Jalen Chatfield from Utica.

Arizona is pretty healthy overall. Jakob Chychrun is the only notable injury and he’s week-to-week with a hip injury. Tragic.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
  • Vancouver has two games in hand on the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights but sits six points back of both teams for first in the division. The Coyotes are two points behind the Canucks and also have played the same number of games as Edmonton and Vegas. There is a lot riding on the outcome of tonight’s game. The Canucks need these two points in a bad way.
  • March is the wrong month to have a losing streak and the Canucks are tied for the second-longest current run of failure with three losses equal to that of the New York Rangers. Stretching it to four takes control out of their hands without every team around them falling down as well.
  • Elias Pettersson is three points back and two power-play goals away from equaling his award-winning rookie season last year. It might be tough for Petey to get that done as the Canucks have been on the losing end of the ledger more times than the winning one. Vancouver has gone 1-2-2 in its last five games against the Coyotes and the PP has basically dried up at 7.7% versus the desert dogs. Pettersson is a difference-maker so let’s assume he gets there.
  • J.T. Miller should be getting consideration for player of the week soon if Leon Draisaitl finally takes a break. Miller went off for 2G/7A in his last five games. The importance of Miller to this year’s Canucks cannot be stated enough. Without J.T., the loss of Boeser and Leivo would be crushing. #MillerForMVP
  • Speaking of the power play, Bo Horvat scored the last time these two teams met and he did it on the man-advantage. Bo has been a horse lately and could easily make it two games in a row against Arizona.
