Just to think, the season leading up to the Pettersson draft the Canucks won only 30 games. They have number 30 today

THE INTRO
Yet another morning tilt for the Vancouver Canucks as they take on the #BunchOfJerks in a local matinee. The Carolina Hurricanes are coming off a late-game collapse versus the Golden Knights on Friday and will look to bounce back against a surging Canucks squad that has rattled off five-straight victories.
Everything is going right for the Canucks right now, save the drop-pass and the power-play, and getting a win against the Hurricanes would be a proud moment at this point in the season. Plus, anytime you have the opportunity to play against Sebastian Aho two days straight, you take it.
(Yes, I’m aware the other Aho didn’t play yesterday)

LINEUPS
It would take some random act of luck for the lineup to change after yesterday’s beauty of a win. The Canucks are buzzing right now and it would be unwise to mess with that.
Micheal Ferland is skating and will get a conditioning stint in Utica this upcoming week. As for Tyler Motte, he’ll be out 4-6 weeks with a head injury.
Thatcher Demko should start today after Jacob Markstrom did his thing yesterday against the Islanders in a win.

Don’t expect any changes from the lineup below for today’s game. Dougie Hamilton is still out with a broken fibula which I hear is painful so he won’t be in the game, not even maybe.
Will Petr Mrazek get another start or will James Reimer get the nod today?

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
- Writing this officially because Twitter doesn’t count: Quinn Hughes is tied with Filip Zadina in rookie goals with eight. The guy that went one pick prior is having the exact same production as the latter. Also, Hughes has 38 points and leads all rookies. ALSO, he’s a defenseman and no one has ever seen anything like him in Vancouver.
- The Canucks are 1-2 against the Hurricanes since Elias Pettersson joined the team. Goal scoring has been an issue, so has the power play, and shots haven’t been pretty either. Thankfully, the only win came in December as a 1-0 shutout. You remember, of course you do.
- Marveling at Hughes totals is pretty fun and super easy: Point, click, BOOM! It’s there. Half of his goal total has come in the last five games. Hughes has four goals in that time along with two assists. If he is on a roll which probably will continue for the next little bit, it’s conceivable he puts another 3-4 points to his name by next weekend. He is still climbing the mountain to eclipse Pettersson’s rookie total but it’s doable.
- Despite Vancouver’s ability to allow the first goal in numerous games this season, they’re T-7 for the least goals allowed in the first period with 40. Carolina is sixth-worst with 51. Canucks need to get that early surge, pun absolutely intended, going.
- The Kansas City Chiefs will win the Super Bowl today but they’ll have to endure some pain prior to lifting the football trophy with a stick on it. 38-36 Chefs.
#CANUCKSTWITTER
There are a lot of great charities out there and even though donors can bring some big bucks to the table, a million dollars is still a million dollars. Well done!

MY 94 CENTS
What can’t the Canucks do right now? They can’t deliver on the power play so there’s that. They believe the drop-pass is still effective and they continue to put Tyler Myers and Oscar Fantenberg together which works as well as last iPhone (not well, not well at all). Aside from those things, the Canucks are doing all the right things at this moment and they look good doing it. Carolina isn’t going to be a pushover but they are beatable.
Goaltending could be the story today so hopefully, Demko is up to the challenge.
AND ANOTHER THING…
The world seems to be burning outside of the lower mainland. It’s quite beautiful:
"It’s just disrespectful. We hit two posts and he’s celebrating like they won the Stanley Cup," said the @EdmontonOilers' Leon Draisaitl 🎥⤵️ sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/dra…
