Eight preseason games, wow! We made it. A lot has happened in the last few weeks and the final decisions will be made after tonight. Brendan Gaunce and Ronalds Kenins were sent down to Utica. So guess who’s left: Jared McCann, Jake Virtanen and Ben Hutton. The Oilers come to Rogers Arena and if it’s anything like Thursday’s game, we’re in for a treat.

LINEUPS

As I stated above (see above) Kenins and Gaunce have been sent to Utica. Jared McCann has done everything that’s been asked of him and it would be pretty cool to see him crack the lineup.  Jake Virtanen has had a great preseason but could really use a statement game tonight. And Ben Hutton? He’ll end up being the first star or something. It’s the Oilers I know, but all the storylines make this a pretty important game.
Dressing for the Canucks tonight are as follows:
Daniel Sedin – Henrik Sedin – Brandon Sutter
Sven Baertschi – Bo Horvat – Radim Vrbata
Alex Burrows – Jared McCann – Jannik Hansen
Brandon Prust – Adam Cracknell – Jake Virtanen
Alex Edler – Chris Tanev
Dan Hamhuis – Matt Bartkowski
Ben Hutton – Luca Sbisa
It’s Miller time between the pipes tonight, as Ryan gets the start. He could use a confidence booster and the Oilers are always good for that.
The Connor McDavid show will be brought to Vancouver and there will be some cheers most assuredly. Leon Draisaitl will get another audition up the depth chart and for his sake he needs a good game. As I said before, he has the talent and you can’t sleep on this guy.
Talbot should be back so its about as close to opening night as it gets….which also means the Oilers will probably lose.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS FINAL PRESEASON GAME

  • A broken record, maybe; but one more Jake Virtanen “murder” would be a nice bow on his preseason. Bookending it with yet another McDavid bone crusher makes me feel the warms inside.
  • Ben Hutton is good and you’ve noticed. This special feeling we get when a defenseman pans out here is pretty great. Edler, Tanev, Carney, Sbisa and now Hutton? Let’s just watch and see what other amazing talents he has: fly fishing, professional bowling and I heard he has a collection of Ninja Turtle comics that rivals any true collector. This guy is so dreamy!
  • Sven Baertschi has actually impressed and has found a home with the young’ens. Seeing him continue to feed off Horvat and Virtanen could net some big returns. I was not trying to create a pun there, but it seems I have. This is awkward.
  • If we don’t see anything remotely noteworthy tonight, Linden Vey could be in for some sad eat your pains away days. His job has been in jeopardy for a few weeks now and he has cared about us much as I do about Greys Anatomy and all that other trash. The answer is not at all. Unless he just doesn’t want to play in Vancouver which is ABSURD!!!! EVERYONE wants to play here; Vey just hasn’t figured out he might not have a job come Monday. Well, at least not a good job anyways.
  • Burrows getting flipped to LW has also created options and being paired up with Jannik Hansen gives yet another look at the brave new world of diversity on the Canucks. Maybe the Canucks aren’t in as bad shape as we thought. I’ll hold back from making that comment official.
  • Interesting note about Ben Hutton which would suggest he will be a Canuck:

    WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

    MY TAKE

I sure hope this game against the lowly Oilers is so much like the last one. Jim Benning/Willie D have some very tough decisions coming up, but the false sense of security against an Oilers team that still isn’t that great shouldn’t be the measuring stick for how good these guys are. BOLD PREDICTION ALERT!!!!! Luca Sbisa has a good game and we actually praise him.
Canucks win yet again and we rejoice, 4-1.
