Canucks Army Postgame: I Dano How to Feel About That Loss

The Vancouver Canucks received multiple offers for Dan Hamhuis at the trade deadline. This much we know. The Chicago Blackhawks, the presumptive frontrunner for Hamhuis until the deadline day itself, apparently put together a package centered on Marko Dano. So, of course, Dano leads the Jets to a 5-1 victory over the Canucks with two goals.
I think it was Future who said it best… “man what a time, to be alive”.

Stats

Quick Hits

  • Believe it or not, the Canucks actually got off to a pretty good start. The Jets didn’t even get their first shot attempt until about five minutes in – naturally, a goal by the aforementioned Dano. That’s where the rails came off.
  • The Canucks were dropping like flies in this game. First, they lost Markus Granlund to a hit by – you guessed it – Dano. It’s an upper-body injury. Luca Sbisa absorbed a nasty, bordering on late Adam Lowy hit in the second and appeared to injure his shoulder on that play. Also, did not return. Wonder how far Brendan Gaunce is…
  • Sven Baertschi keeps on rolling. Doesn’t have a goal to show for it, but he was buzzing all game. Is starting to regain his early season form through the neutral zone, too. Led the Canucks with ten successful entries, eight of which were controlled. Set up a nice Granlund rush in the first, too.
  • Reasons to keep watching:
  • You wouldn’t know it looking at the score, but Jacob Markstrom actually had an okay game. Nothing to write home about, obviously. Certainly deserved better than the five-spot the Jets put on him. There was a 2-on-0 goal, a couple deflections and maybe a firesale or two in front. Besides, he did this…
  • Alexandre Grenier played his second game in the NHL tonight. It was his fourth game in four days though, so you can hardly blame him for looking a little sluggish out there. Grenier had a middle of the pack Corsi, but was on the ice for three goals against. Took an ill-advised penalty in the third, too. Maybe give the guy a day off practice tomorrow.
