Canucks Army Postgame #1000: HENR1K

Jan 21, 2017, 01:32 ESTUpdated:

Tonight, fans were afforded the opportunity to see a player that’s meant so much to this franchise set a major milestone in his career. It was a moment that won’t be soon forgotten, and I must admit it had me teary-eyed for a moment there.
That’s right, Jared McCann got his first point against his former team.
I kid, of course. As you well know by now, Henrik Sedin scored his 1000th point, on a beautiful goal no less, making him the first player to do so in a Canucks uniform.
And wouldn’t you know it, the Canucks’ captain carried his team to victory as the Canucks held on to win the game 2-1 in what was as entertaining an affair as Rogers Arena has seen this season.

GAME NOTES
- There’s not much more you could ask for from a Canucks game these days. For the first time in awhile, not only did they deserve to win, but they did so in entertaining fashion. Obviously, the highlight of the night was Henrik Sedin’s goal and the celebration that followed it. The Canucks’ bench cleared, as the crowd saluted the Canucks’ captain with a standing ovation. It was truly a special moment.
- Nikita Tryamkin continues to impress. His game is still very raw, but he continues to surprise us with new skills as he gains confidence. He was completing passes, joining the rush, and he nearly took Bo Horvat’s head off with a slapshot. If he can put it all togetherhe’s going to be a force to be reckoned with.
- The Canucks nominal second line had a surprisingly strong showing tonight, especially Brandon Sutter. Sutter finished the game with a team-high four shots, a couple of chances, and had some real sandpaper in his game, something we haven’t really seen from him in a Canucks uniform. He was also +4 by even strength Corsi, something we definitely haven’t seen from him in a Canucks uniform. He’s still got a long way to go to earn that hefty contract, but a few more games like tonight will be a good start.
- Despite the Panthers’ loss, it was a good night for ex-Canucks as well. I mentioned Jared McCann in the lead-off tonight, but joking aside he had quite the game. He finished the game +2 in even-strength Corsi and had the assist on the Panthers’ first goal. The same could not have been said for Erik Gudbranson, who was practically invisible tonight.
- While we’re on the subject of former Canucks, Roberto Luongo had what would have been the highlight of the game on just about any other night, absolutely stoning Loui Eriksson early in the first period. He also exchanged pleasantries with his former teammate after Henrik hit the 1000-point milestone.
- Not to be outdone, Zac Dalpe and Tom Sestito also managed to have memorable nights, despite not having played for the Canucks in over 2 years.
