The Canucks right now got me like…
Alright, you’ve got questions and I’ve got answers. Let’s do this.
Well, I guess I have to start this with the caveat that music is as subjective as anything gets. Like, if I had my way Rogers Arena would be playing Young Thug, Earl Sweatshirt, Tool and Nirvana almost endlessly. How many people would like that? Realistically, I’d imagine the number can be counted on one hand.
That said, I agree their music could use a little work. Like, I could live with maybe even a little less of the techno. Anyways, don’t get your hopes up. Music likely isn’t changing anytime soon. Not for the better anyways.
I’m young enough that I barely — and I mean barely — remember Ronning’s time as a member of the Nashville Predators, much less his prime years with the Canucks. I’m trying to pick up on my hockey history, but it’s a slow going process. Just think about how much time I spend trying to understand and analyze today’s version of the NHL, in combination with another two jobs (a third is on the way) and this kind of stuff, unfortunately, gets left behind.
I’m going to lean on the benevolent Comments Section to answer this one. What’re your thoughts, my peoples?
Intuitively, I get the sense a player like Ronning would be as successful now as he was historically. I think the biggest difference would be the opportunities afforded him to show off his worth.
I can confirm that he is, in fact, a good goaltender.
If this summer is any indication, he’s not worth a whole heck of a lot. Like, the Canucks have been trying to trade Sbisa all summer and still haven’t found a taker. Don’t get your hopes up for any Sbisa trades.
As an aside, if Sbisa opens the season as the Canucks seventh defenceman, which I think is likely at this stage, that’s not really the end of the world. His awful contract is already signed. Like, let’s not go down the road of sunk costs. He shouldn’t receive extra playing time to try and vindicate that deal. As a depth defenceman, Sbisa is in the best possible position to succeed.
Gotta catch ’em all.
Given that the Oilers haven’t been able to secure a second-round pick for Yakupov yet, I’d like to think that Jordan Subban for Nail Yakupov might even be an overpayment by the Canucks, relative to his value on the trade block. Would I pull the trigger on that trade? I’m not entirely sure.
I think the Canucks long term health on the right wing is in good shape. Between Brock Boeser and Jake Virtanen, the Canucks don’t really have a glaring need in that department. The same cannot be said of right-shot defenceman. Subban is one of two in the Canucks prospect system at the moment.
Not to mention, I think Subban is on the right track to developing into an NHL defenceman.
This isn’t a question. Our own Ryan Biech was on TSN 1040 AM the other day though and did a great job. Listen to him, and stuff.
