As yet another season series wraps up, the Canucks and Wild do battle in a classic Northwest Division matchup. The Wild are looking to secure a playoff spot and a win against the lowly Canucks would do it. That being said, the Canucks don’t fold for just anyone, well unless you muster up 40 shots, then it’s almost a sure thing.
Early start time this morning so grab a cup of coffee and a doughnut and by the first intermission, there may be some big news to announce regarding some kid out of North Dakota.
LINE COMBOS
This is an open book as we may or may not see Brock Boeser debut this morning. Reid Boucher would most likely sit in that case or even Alex Biega the hybrid monster. But let’s hear more about this Brock character.
Richard Bachman is the confirmed starter but only because they expect Ryan Miller will be bombarded with shots tomorrow in Winnipeg.

Christian Folin is back after missing 10 games with an army injury. He’ll be welcomed back on defense I’m sure. No other big news to announce.
Devan Dubnyk will most likely start.

GAME NOTES, STATS, AND OTHER INTERESTING INFO
  • Henrik and Daniel Sedin are back! Even though many aren’t talking about it, ok pretty much anyone, the Sedins have combined for nine points in the last five games. It’s not much but they’ve been slightly more productive lately and that’s worth talking about. I know, I’m reaching here.
  • Bo Horvat has been getting owned in the faceoff circle lately but now that he is the unofficial #1 centre, he’s getting the star attention that goes with it. He mentioned on 1040 the other day that when he faced off against Jonathan Toews, JT won so many because he cheated. The good ones do buddy. This is the learning curve that will put Bo in the star category sooner than later. Might as well get the ugly out of the way now.
  • Since March 1, there are three players with 25 or more hits: Jayson Megna, Alex Biega and, Joseph Cramarossa. Willie Desjardins might not be as crazy as we think having these guys out there more when they’re the only ones keeping the game remotely physical. They’re also tied with one giveaway in that span. I have a feeling we’ll be writing an article about how (insert player here) is actually good.
  • Now that Markus Granlund is done for the year, Sven Baertschi is the only player maintaining a scoring touch on the Canucks. In March, Baertschi is the only other player on the Canucks besides Granlund averaging 0.30 G/GP or higher. It drops down by 0.9 to the next player after Baertschi, who happens to be a player that isn’t known for scoring goals: Henrik Sedin. We don’t need too many reasons to see why the Canucks have tumbled this year.
  • I don’t know if it needs to be said but Daniel Sedin is missing a lot of shots lately. After looking into it, he actually is. So far in March, he’s missed 11 shots, while Bo has missed 9. If he misses shots in this game, I hope Henrik is right behind him in his follow-through.
WHAT WE’RE SAYING
MY TAKE
I believe the Canucks are better than they show most nights. I truly believe this. There are plenty of stats to suggest why they are awful but there is something happening otherwise we would have zero hope for the future. Maybe we get a shootout and at the very least we can see Goldobin’s sick flow as he dangles into the Top 10 reels.
BROCK TALK
It’s kind of nice to not talk about Mumps or food poisoning or playoffs. Well, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. With the inevitable debut of Boeser coming as soon as today after his North Dakota team was ousted in double-OT last night, the hype train is on a collision course with the Canucks. He may not amount to much for the rest of the season but it puts butts in seats and eyes on the TV.
There is a future with this team and he’s definitely in it.
