CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 71 – CANUCKS VS. BLUES

The Canucks are so close to achieving that first overall pick it’s scary. The Blues have been in town for a few days and the Canucks just got back from getting beat by the Oilers last night. It will continue to frustrate us but the end will come soon and there might actually be a reward for this atrocity. Oh, and there’s new injuries too!

No Jannik Hansen, probably no Radim Vrbata, maybe Alex Biega on top of the already decimated lineup. This team is getting handled. Chris Higgins was recalled, though, so that’s a thing. There can be no more surprises now, everything is unraveling but it’s redeeming for some reason. But… go Canucks go.
Ryan Miller is going to start and if anything, that should bring some relief. Oh, and he used to play for the STL… for about 10 minutes.
Vancouver Canucks lines courtesy of Dailyfaceoff.com:
Ryan Reaves will replace Magnus Paajarvi, Carl Gunnarson is questionable and I don’t think it will matter. Based on health alone, this one might be over before the 2nd.
Brian Elliott is back for the Blues after being out since Feb 22.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS GAME (I’LL COME UP WITH SOME)
  • If you’re a glutton for punishment like I am, you’ll be watching this regardless. Something about seeing your team achieve the opposite of great is intriguing. The Auston Matthews thing is legit now and you feel like you want to be connected to how it all unwinds. Don’t get me wrong, it’s tough to watch.
  • There aren’t any games that will impact the standings in the Canucks favour or disfavour depending on how you look at it; Sunday is the day for that. However, a loss and Columbus/Winnipeg win puts VAN in 3rd pick territory. It’s real!
  • His 2nd NHL game and already he’s getting the ice time; Nikita Tryamkin is climbing and he doesn’t look out of place. Sure, he’s green and has that Alex Auld type look (baby giraffe) but he seems to be gaining trust from WD.
  • I’ve come up with a new stat. Not sure how to make it relevant or what will become of it, here goes: It’s called the Sedin Rating. It has multiple parts but can have a rating % when calculated properly. If you receive a pass from a Sedin and shoot the puck, it’s a +1 DS, if you pass the puck to a Sedin resulting in a shot, +1 HS, and finally if you get a point with either Sedin, +1 SED. It doesn’t have a minus system but more like the Stableford system in golf. It can be turned into a % by dividing the total points of the Sedins and the third player and the sum of all 3 Sedin numbers. Ex: you take 3 shots off passes from Daniel and Henrik, they get 2. You score a goal and combine with the Twins for 4 points. You would have a 66.7 HDS% Maybe you can adapt it better, let me know. Anyways, it’ll keep you busy until they keep the Sedins off the ice.
  • A Matt Bartkowski goal. I’m calling it. Watch all 60 minutes to see if I’m a psychic.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
MY TAKE
Healthy Blues, unhealthy Canucks. Blues win in OT.
WHAT’D I MISS?
