CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 69 – CANUCKS VS. AVALANCHE

He’s here…..
No, not Chris Jericho… Nikita Tryamkin! Not since Y2J debuted in the WWF back in 1999 with that ever so shiny shirt has there been a more hyped debut for an athlete, nay, a Vancouver Canuck. He’s made the trip from Russia, he’s had um, two practices and he’s in for a hefty amount of minutes tonight against the Avalanche because basically everyone’s injured.
The Canucks have taken both games this year and they’ll be hard pressed to have a chance in this one. Stan Smyl has been signed to an emergency contract so he may suit up tonight but believe you me, this one will be good.

Where do I start? Well, Alex Burrows will be back in the lineup after blocking a shot on the weekend, Tryamkin makes his NHL debut, Andrey Pedan is back (HOORAY!) and Brendan Gaunce is too! Emergency call ups, but still. That’s where the fun ends.
Here’s the injuries: Luca Sbisa (week to week) with no shoulder, Jannik Hansen (hurting ribs), Alex “Bulldog” Biega (upper body), Derek Dorsett/Markus Granlund/Yannick Weber (day to day) with the hurts. There’s a good chance this game blows up before the 10 minute mark but the Sedins are healthy so it could still go Vancouver’s way.
Ryan Miller would be next on the you play, he plays rotation.

Yet another former star Kelowna Rocket, Tyson Barrie, will be back in the lineup and will most definitely score because: Canucks. I’m going to play the parlay and call for Blake Comeau to score as well. Shawn Matthias is still NHL’ing with the Avs and I hear he got his old room for the night. Jarome Iginla will grace us with his presence and honestly, I miss hiim. If we want that first overall pick Jarome can help us out.
Semyon Varlamov will once again start. He does not tire, he is machine goalie.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS GAME
- HOLD UP, HEYYYYY!!! All the NHL thinking we soft, we just playyyyy until Auston Matthews buys a Yaletown loft. The Canucks aren’t soft no more; Andrey Pedan and Nikita Tryamkin are about to throw down the gauntlet and show the Avs whats up. That could also be a lot of nothing, not quite sure yet. Solid Dre reference though right?
- I could really make this all about the new Russian dudes but that would be too easy. So let’s talk about how Jared McCann became relevant last game. The last time McCann scored, I didn’t know I was getting socks for Christmas. SPOILER ALERT, I got socks. That’s how long its been. McCann has kind of faded to the back of the class even on a team that has faded in the same way. This is the kind of game he could get up for I think. Let’s cheer for Jared or pretend he’s Russian or something, I dunno.
- Jake Virtanen is doing his thing right now; kind of unlucky though with a 98.9 PDO and his on ice SA% is a pedestrian 90.3% Playing with the Sedins will no doubt give him more opportunities to get his game bouncing in a more positive direction but the way the team is headed down the stretch, he isn’t the biggest concern. Just enjoy the hits he brings, those are good enough.
- I hate to say it but Derek Dorsett might be in line for another game where he scores a goal and we are all shocked. If Bo Horvat is his linemate there’s a good chance I’m right today, and I’ve been WRONG a lot. Not like that’s surprising. He’ll get more ice time as a result of all the injuries so maybe put a few bucks on sports action for him to score. Worst case is you lose real money.
- Still close to the bottom, Columbus or Buffalo or Winnipeg or Calgary need to start winning. You know what, they ALL need to start winning. The Canucks aren’t that far back so there’s hope folks. There’s hope.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
MY TAKE
This Canucks team is beyond banged up. Colorado should have an easy one but you never know. I’m still taking the Avs by 2. Is that good enough?
