CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 67 – CANUCKS @ FLAMES

By Always90four
Feb 19, 2016, 15:00 ESTUpdated:

The Canucks have lost their last three games by a score of 5-2, which is simply stunning! Willie’s boys roll into Calgary where the Flames have lost their last three as well, being outscored 15-8, narrowly edging out the Canucks by two goals. Both of these teams have played dreadful hockey lately so someone has to win tonight. It’s Friday, the work week is done and the Canucks need to dig deep and get that #MUST level back up.
Let’s do this.

Jared McCann should factor back in after Adam Cracknell had an iffy game last night. Jannik Hansen is one breakaway away from 11th all time in missed breakaways. Not a real stat but I’m probably right. The deadline can’t come soon enough; we need to know that things are starting over officially. Radim Vrbata is checking his phone every 5 minutes, Matt Bartkowski is just…he just shouldn’t be on the team and Jake Virtanen needs to get bumped up to the 2nd line.
Jacob Markstrom will start but are you really surprised? Imagine if he is the guy getting all the starts and Joe Cannata is the back up. Trade deadline folks, trade deadline.

Dennis Wideman is not playing tonight, he’s not playing tomorrow or even the next day. He did some things. There isn’t much to be excited about with the Flames either and if you’re still reading this part you’ve really dedicated more time to the opponents than you should.
Jonas Hiller is starting and I’m indifferent.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS GAME
- There’s no way this Canucks team loses pathetically again to the Flames. Just don’t see it. What I do see is a bounce back game and the continuation of the Horvat/Baertschi line. Sorry Vrbata, you’re just a technicality now.
- Speaking of Sven Baertschi, that trade sure has worked out well for the Canucks…well at least so far. Bae has already hit career highs in almost everything except assists but that isn’t far behind. It’s early to judge if the pick Vancouver traded to Calgary will pan out (Flames picked Rasmus Andersson – Barrie Colts) but as of right now, everything’s coming up Milhouse for Sven.
- Jake Virtanen is quickly proving that if he’s on anyone and I mean anyone’s line, he makes them better. Resident CA uber statter Jeremy Davis proves that here and if we look at Virtanen’s 32 GP, he has some very healthy numbers so far. A CF% 5v5 of 52.9 with an average of 10 min a game speaks volumes and if you dumb it right down, he’s quite valuable on the ice.
- I’ve really liked Alex Biega’s play as of late, he’s been the least taxing player on the back end…ok Ben Hutton has that distinction but Biega is making waves and is slowly developing into a player we don’t need to hate. That’s a bonus folks. Imagine if we didn’t hate the Canucks. One player at a time, this is possible.
- Everyone knows the Canucks are 7 points back of dead last but its the determination to be dead last that many of us hope they’re pushing for. Its funny to think Auston Matthews in a Canucks jersey is still a real possibility and looking at this whole season, its just kind of happened. I want a Canucks win as bad as the next guy but if they started losing 5-4 instead of 5-2, at least there’s goals coming in.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
MY TAKE
I believe in the Vancouver Canucks in the same way that Nikki Yanofsky believed in our country in 2010. Was she paid to believe, probably? But as far as I’m concerned our genuineness (sp?, actual word?) towards what we believe in is very real. The Canucks have to beat the Flames because that’s what we do. They do it in regulation and Alex Biega is the star. I’ve been so wrong this year, I’m fine with continuing that streak.
WHAT’D I MISS?
The last time the Canucks scored more than 2 goals and won, was against the Bruins almost a month ago. At that point, we were still cool with a lot of things. We were so naive back then.
