CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 65 – CANUCKS @ KINGS

Hollywood’s bright lights shine on the Canucks and Kings Monday night. Is there a better matchup than watching these two juggernauts go toe to toe? Actually, yes there are a bunch. But fear not Canucks fans, Vancouver is riding a one-game win streak and look to make it two in LA. The Nucks will be depleted but weirder things have happened.

Wins come with a cost; the Canucks will be without Henrik Sedin (upper body), Chris Tanev (also upper body), probably Radim Vrbata (groin) and Fin (doesn’t go on road trips) when they play the Kings this evening. If a game needed #MUST, this is it! The line blender will be in full swing Monday night but someone thought adding bacon to everything was a good idea and that worked out just fine. I liken that comparison to the Canucks this evening.
Jacob Markstrom got the W in San Jose and will get a chance to take two in California.

”Verbeauty” as he’s known or his given name Kris Versteeg should play after being injured in a 3-2 loss to the Ducks on Saturday night. This group of thugs will look to bully Vancouver into submission to gain back their lead in the Pacific. Milan Lucic will be on guard for Dan Hamhuis’ hip check, we’ll just keep crying about why he even did it in the first place.
Jonathan Quick will start. This can be confirmed by MULTIPLE sources.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS GAME
  • Sven Baertschi is doing it again; 1 goal and 2 helpers in his last two games probably means things are about to go for a run once more. Bo Horvat can’t be far behind.
  • The trade deadline fiasco must have really sparked Dan Hamhuis because he’s been on fire as of late… ok that may have been a bit much. Hammer put his first goal of the season behind him last game and on the PP too! The Canucks will be looking for more of the sweet stuff as Chris Tanev will be out and Hamhuis’ minutes will be jacked like The Rock.
  • I’m not entirely sure how forgiving the blue lines are at the Staples Center but Vancouver may not want to take any chances after narrowly being allowed a goal that almost was overturned by an offside call. The stanchions aren’t tricky here so that should also play in the Canucks favour. ALL THE INFO TONIGHT!!!
  • He’s easily our Rookie of the Year; Ben Hutton is doing it all. He dances, holds the line, walks old ladies across the street, smiles contagiously and is beginning to carry this team. Hutton is getting involved a lot more in this half of the season with a 50.4 CF% and eventually we’ll be more concerned with why he’s getting snubbed for the Norris.
  • It took 32 tries on Tankathon, but it is possible the Canucks can still get that 1st overall pick and the rights to Auston Matthews of Zurich. The downside is that other teams can lose too and that would hurt Vancouver’s chances. I still want to see a win but then 12 points ahead of the Leafs just doesn’t scream “top pick in 2016”.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
If that’s how Milan Lucic is gonna dress, maybe the Canucks shouldn’t sign him in the offseason.
MY TAKE
Following their recent wonky win/loss pattern, the Canucks will be victorious in LA this evening. How that will happen is anyone’s guess but after Saturday’s power play enslaught, I’d start there.
WHAT’D I MISS?
Now, if only I had a really good idea that got me hired to one of these NHL teams….I got it!!! I’ll be Ryan Biech! We have the same first name, they probably won’t even check. Great work guys!
