CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 62 – CANUCKS VS. ISLANDERS

By Always90four
Mar 1, 2016, 15:00 ESTUpdated:

Do they still have to play these games? Do they!? OK, it’s the Canucks and the Islanders from the most depressing building in the NHL, ROGERS ARENA!!! Both teams are coming off losses where they only scored ONE measly goal. NHL superstar JTT, errr… JT aka John Tavares will be here and that’s neat. Really enjoy this one folks because the next two are against the Sharks.
The Sharks.

Well, well, well, Radim Vrbata is on the top line finally and it could really boost his trade val… too soon? Honestly, why the heck is he on this line now? Is Willie Desjardins trying to unearth this hidden talent stream from Vrbata after it doesn’t even matter anymore? Regardless, Jannik Hansen will probably help some. I also saw Hansen is still skating with the Twins. Cracknell is gone to Edmonton so Jared McCann is now basically a full timer.
Ryan Miller should start. He’s still good.

Shane Prince is new to the NYI, he must be so happy he’s not in Edmonton anymore. Johnny T is a real treat to watch and Ryan Strome and JT should do some damage. Is there really anything else you want to know about the Islanders today, it’s a Canucks game day preview. I’m still mad at Jim Benning.
Jaro Halak will start.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS GAME
- All the hoopla of trade deadline day over. Your Canucks are almost identical to what they looked like on Sunday. Love it or hate it, this is the team that will challenge for a playoff spot/first overall pick. No rental moves, no picks moved no nothing moved. Enjoy the ride with the young guys and next year, we got this!
- Still only 8 points back of the playoffs, the Canucks are still in this. It may not be a glamorous finish but honestly, how hilarious would it be to see this team succeed after all the horrors? I’m pulling for them and even though it could be a train wreck if they do make it, Bo Horvat, the Sedin line and Ryan Miller will all be huge reasons they do. 2 points at a time.
- Jannik Hansen is part of that Sedin line and his SH% is actually freaking amazing; 18.8% puts him in the stud category. He’s also 20% at 5v5. Jannik Hansen would have fetched those first rounders, just saying.
- This has been a pretty depressing season for Alex Burrows. He may be teetering off towards the back nine or maybe he just needs better line mates? Anyways, Burr hasn’t done anything relatively effective in awhile, this is his game tonight to shine.
- Bo Horvat and Sven Baertschi haven’t blown anyone away lately, statistically, so I envision they get back to having fun together and score a goal or two. Let the kids play #SPARTA
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
MY TAKE
I want so bad to be the guy that says “SCREW THIS SEASON” but I just can’t give up on them. Somehow, I give them a chance and even though its just not even watchable, they win this one. They’re good, not great, but good. They can win.
WHAT’D I MISS?
Beating a dead horse is still relevant the week it happens.
