CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 59 – CANUCKS VS. AVALANCHE

By Always90four
Feb 21, 2016, 15:24 ESTUpdated:

Don’t want to alarm anyone, but the Canucks actually won their last game against the Avalanche by a score of 3-1. Most recently, that would sound atrocious as the Canucks can’t even score 3 goals in a game period. Even the teams in the worst kind of struggle, find a way to snap out of it. We’ve seen it before and if Jim Benning is to be a buyer at the deadline, they’ll need wins….and they’ll need them soon.

Linden Vey sat last game and I’m sure Willie has seen enough from his non-Medicine Hat alumni to put him back in. Yannick Weber has been unnoticeable but Matt Bartkowski has been Sbizza-esque, circa 2015; he needs to go. The kids aren’t changing and maybe Willie gives Radim Vrbata another go around with the Sedins before the deadline to spice up demand?
Ryan Miller should start but maybe they’re reshooting an episode of Hockey Wives and Markstrom starts. have to see I guess.

No changes from last night’s game vs. the Oilers. Watch out for Kelowna Rocket alum Tyson Barrie, he lit the lamp twice yesterday. Jarome Iginla is always a threat against the Canucks and Gabriel Landeskog causes fits. I don’t like the Avs but they like the Canucks, and it is entirely possible a loss of one more than 4 and one less than 6 is in the cards.
Semyon Varlamov will start as Calvin Pickard got the win last night in Edmonton.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS GAME
- Before we go running our mouths about how hilarious it would be to lose five straight games by a score of 5-2, we know the Canucks aren’t good at fulfilling dreams. At the same time, we’re all watching to see if it indeed does happen and the team moves one game closer to the Zurich Zoom, Auston Matthews.
- In case for whatever reason you thought maybe the Sedin line wasn’t amazing this year with Jannik Hansen, Puckalytic’s SuperWOWY put you in your place. A combined CF% of 52.2 and a GF% of 69.2; these Euro’s are straight up thuggin. 35 years old and numbers like that? THAT, is a reason to watch this game.
- Last weekend, Elliotte Friedman dropped a bombshell and it wouldn’t be a weekend Canucks game without some news. Hopefully the scales tip a bit towards Bennings future moves in the next week. Literally anything would suffice, even if all we find out is that he bought a golden retriever and named him Steven. (foreshadowing?)
- Would you believe despite his ghost like tendencies to disappear, Radim Vrbata is sixth in team scoring this year. Being on the Horvat line has not hurt his production entirely and maybe they should indeed just keep him there until something happens either way. His last point was an assist against the Leafs and he’s a -9 in his last 5 games. The end may be near for Vrby on this Canucks team but it’d be great if he went out with a bang at least.
- Ryan Miller needs a game where the guys in front of him just don’t give up the puck. Tall task I know, but imagine a defensively responsible game for once and minimal breakdowns in the first 5 minutes. If he’s hanging around until that contract ends, hopefully he can get some goal support. He’s a nice guy after all.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
MY TAKE
I want the 5-2 loss, i really do, but this has to end someday soon and it might as well be tonight. It would be nice if one of the lesser contributors had a game but it’ll end up being Baertschi, Hansen or Horvat most likely. Canucks win an ugly one in OT.
