CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 39 – CANUCKS VS. DUCKS

Kevin Bieksa makes his first trip back to Vancouver since being traded to the District 5 Ducks. The Canucks are looking forward to starting 2016 better than their 2015 ended – with goals and hopefully wins. Looks like Tanev is back after being a soldier against the Ning. Still hate the Ducks, hate their cheap shot Corey Perrys, Ryan Getzlafs and Ryan Keslers. Beat these punks and beat ’em good, boys.

LINE COMBOS

Chris Tanev is back!!! So happy for him. The sad news is that Andrey Pedan has been sent down. Don’t like that he’s being sent down as his physical presence has been most welcome; wish other players would take note. Apparently Alex Biega is now untouchable with his star-studded play. Please find me a hilite reel so I can agree with you. Sven Baertschi is out for the immediate future which sucks because that line with Bo Horvat was just getting there. Don’t screw this up Higgins.
Jacob Markstrom is still getting the nod as Ryan Miller is still hurt. Maybe he’s working out a deal to be traded……

Kevin Bieksa is back. That’s the biggest news out of the Ducks lineup but seeing Patrick Maroon in there, I just want someone to punch his face so hard. Prust? The Ducks are dealing with a few scratches though: Conway (ankle), Averman (substance abuse), Banks (wrist), Russ (SNL) and Wu (IISAC World Championships). No doubt missing these guys is big but ol’ beaver tail Kesler should make up for their absence.
John Gibson is fire right now. He’s your tendy.

HERE’S WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH TONIGHT

  • Clearly you are fighting a hangover from ringing in the New Year and you missed any opportunity to be of worth to society today and conveniently you’re still on the couch. Just watch the first game of 2016 and enjoy it; you might not get to enjoy too many more this year.
  • Beating a dead horse with this one but he has been missed; Chris Tanev is back and the blue line is noticeably worse without him. The Tan man will bring some stability back there and considering the PK will probably get some work, he’s a welcome sight.
  • With no Sven Baertschi to flank Bo Horvat, that line has instantly taken a big hit. Chris Higgins does not have what Sven has but if he can flex those abs even a few times tonight and tough this one out, he may be able to get Bo going; who knows?
  • I expect tonight to be physical and with that probably a few donnybrooks. The Canucks lack toughness in the worst way and I want to believe they can still address this with what they have. Prust and Dorsett need to show that #MUST Willie was blabbing about because it sure isn’t there.
  • Expect the unexpected from the Canucks this calendar year and that starts tonight. If you remember George Costanza doing the exact opposite of what he normally would do and things worked out for him, maybe that same fortune can work for the Canucks. I keep saying Bo and McCann will turn it around…maybe I need to call out players more.
  • Chris Higgins – you’re a waste of space on this team and you have amounted to nothing this year. Figure it out bud! Think it worked?

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

MY TAKE

The standings would tell you this is anyones game but the Canucks seem to play to the level of their competition. Even with a 1-0 win against the Oilers last night (no surprises here), the back to backs haven’t been kind to VanCity. Canucks outshine the Winter Classic and win it with panache! I was wrong on my last prediction so I’m shooting to be .700 this calendar year.
