The rush of beating the Coyotes is still fresh, and the Canucks take that momentum into Dallas to face the equally lowly Stars.
A few interesting things have happened since the Canucks last played: Vancouver started their Black Friday deals early by signing Ben Hutton to a 2-year deal, and Philip Larsen is apparently getting back into the lineup (soon). The Stars will want to redeem themselves after blowing a lead in Vancouver the last time these teams played. You remember it well, Troy Stecher with the self-pass and the Stecher-bomb to tie it regulation. Your boy Markus Granlund ended it in OT, and that was it.
Vancouver is only 3 points back of Dallas, so this is a pivotal matchup that could put them in sniffing distance.
If not, there’s always a moral victory to be had.

GAME NOTES, STATS AND OTHER INTERESTING INFO
  • Bo Horvat is tied for the team lead in points at 13. That’s pretty great. His linemates Sven Baertschi and Alex Burrows work just fine, and even they have been rewarded with some points too! That contract can’t be too far behind either.
  • Ryan Miller gets another shot at the Stars today, and he’s been good in the immediate past. However, his three wins in his last ten starts speak more to the lack of goal scoring up front. The season is still early; Miller can bounce back.
  • I hate the last five game stat, but Sven Baertschi has 6 points, half of them on Wednesday, in his last five and he could feast on a shaky Stars squad. I’m saying he does because I like predicting things.
  • Things LOOK like they’re going Luca Sbisa’s way these days, his 101.6 PDO suggests that as well. He might finally be able to hand in his Dominos car topper.
  • Big problems ahead: if and when Philip Larsen comes back, what does that mean for Troy Stecher? I don’t have anything after that, and I’m just scared.

Vancouver is pretty bad, the stats say so, but they won’t lose every night, and they proved to the Stars last game that you couldn’t count them out until it’s over. The Sedin’s might have a big night so watch out for them.

This IS a Canucks preview, right? Of course, he does. The Stars are about as awful as the Canucks so for a guy like Horvat, this one should be easy as pie. Two points for the young star Canuck.
