The Vancouver Canucks bring their 5-1 road record to Anaheim to take on the injury-riddled Ducks. This is the Canucks first game against the Ducks this year and they won’t reunite until January 2nd of 2018. Last season, the Canucks went 1-1 in Anaheim but this year’s team has the potential to take them all.

LINE COMBINATIONS
Alex Edler and Loui Eriksson are close to returning but it looks like it will be the same lineup as Tuesday.
Jacob Markstrom is the Canucks top goaltender. He’ll start. He’s earned it.

If Ryan is your first name on the Ducks, odds are… you’re injured. Ryan Getzlaf just had facial surgery and is out approximately two months while Ryan Kesler still hasn’t been able to not use his linemates since having surgery to remove bone fragments in his hip. Ondrej Kase is going through the concussion protocol and most likely won’t play. Number one tender John Gibson is out with a concussion as well, which explains the information below.
Ryan Miller, he of former Canucks fame, will start against his old team. Sometimes just be nice to people and nice things will happen to you.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • It’s a big game against the Ducks tonight. The Canucks are 49-49-9 versus the Ducks so win #50 hangs in the balance. Odd that Vancouver has a chance to be the team going for a record. A new world indeed.
  • Both teams are tied with 42 GF this season but the Canucks have allowed 10 fewer goals. A team defence mentality has given the Canucks an opportunity to win every night and the goals are starting to come from all around the lineup. They might not be the best team in the league but the Canucks sure are interesting.
  • Even though Vancouver’s power play is struggling, it has benefited Brock Boeser when he’s allowed to help. Six of his 14 points have come on the power play so if Travis Green wants to see that number jump, #6 needs to be there.
  • In his last 10 games against Anaheim, Bo Horvat has 3G and 2A with both a SHG and a PPP. He’s not Henrik/Daniel vs. the Oilers but he’s building a resume.
  • A Brock Boeser hat-trick. There, I said it. Hate me if you must. These things happen.

The student takes on the teacher when Jacob Markstrom starts against Ryan Miller. This will get some play but if this somehow turns into a potential goals bonanza, Ryan Miller hasn’t been tested enough to hold the fort. I would love to see Boeser get a chance to dance through the Ducks. This might be one of those games for the highlight reel.

Kevin Bieksa getting walked for a goal (+/- 1)  It’s a push. Bieksa gets burnt once. Once is plenty, though.
