Ryan Miller has returned! Oddly enough, he’ll be starting for both teams today. This might get weird. This is the Canucks first look at rookie star and 2nd overall pick that DOESN’T have a broken clavicle, Jack Eichel. We have a college kid that wasn’t taken 2nd overall and wasn’t even taken in the first round. We call him Ben Hutton and he’s so great. So Jack, just..you know what, you’re not Cody Hodgson and that’s ok. Let’s play this game!

LINEUPS

Baertschi is back and there will be no releasing of Cracken…Virtanen maybe, but no Cracken. Obviously Ryan Miller is starting this morning or if you actually are at the game and on first NFL game time, its the PM. Big Country and Burr get the 2nd line treatment with Sutter;  Bo Scorevat is with Bart and Honey Badger. McCann centres Sir Abs-a-lot and Dorsett and these changes are welcomed by me.
On a sad note, I kinda miss Sbisa. Ya I said it. Anyone else? Am I alone here?

After losing to the Lightnings, yes plural, Dan Bylsma switched that ish up. Maybe he thought “Hey, lets put Brian Gionta in a position to earn all his contracts?” He’s with Matt Moulson, I like Matt Moulson, he would have been a nice pick up hey? Sam Reinhart will play his growing up favourite team, I don’t even care if I’m wrong this is the Sabres summary. But the story you care about is Cody Franson and WHY DIDN’T BENNING SIGN THIS GUY???? That’s for another time. Also, Kelowna boy Josh Gorges is in the lineup and I like that he’s good.
Chad Johnson looks to be starting in net. Great wideout in his Bengals years.

REASONS TO BE AWAKE FOR THIS GAME

  • You just woke up for a MORNING Canucks game. I could stop right there and I think we’re all cool with that. But I’ve been told I have to write some more stuff. I have 2 kids and I’ve been up since 6am. Keep reading, I beg you. Have you watched Frozen at 6am? I need this game. I need to get my guy levels back to normal.
  • Willie D is giving Sven Baertschi another shot and hopefully Bo can give him the goods to stick it. He needs to get that motor running because there’s a logjam for his position. Second round pick or not, there’s first round picks that can take his spot.
  • The local papers are talking it up (haven’t looked), our papers are talking it up (looked last night) and you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know it’s a big game for Ryan Miller. Finishing this game is just as big. Millsy, as his closest friends call him, will be back to his old home. What’s even bigger is Hockey Wives will be shot on location in Buffalo. This could be bigger than the game itself.
  • Matt Bartkowski has actually been alright this season. With 2G and 2A in 12 games, he’s been a decent addition to the team. Having capable defensemen has been hit and miss in Vancouver and he’s yet another reason this year’s team isn’t awful, quite the opposite; the bright spot of the Pacific? OK maybe that was a bit much to say.
  • This is why the Canucks need to win this game, win it in 60 minutes or less and be out of Buffalo REAL TIME in just over 2hrs:

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

This kid is good, hopefully Virtanen buries him.

MY TAKE

Do we beat Buffalo? You dam skippy we beat Buffalo. Jack Eichel? Ya maybe tomorrow, we’ve got plenty of young stars that we didn’t need to take 2nd overall to talk about. Its Ryan Miller’s game though and I’m thinking he has one of those “I had a lot on my heart today and I stepped up and made this one count” kinda games. Nucks by 3. I don’t care you get there.
