You waited all week for this one.
There are a handful of games we all look forward to every year and this one ranks pretty highly. Even Ryan Kesler came out of the dark room to see this one. Your Vancouver Canucks haven’t scored all week and the Leafs are coming off back to back wins against the Sabres and Oilers.
As injuries mount for Vancouver, these games will get tougher and tougher to watch. Thankfully, at some point, the Canucks will start scoring again and maybe we can complain about which goaltender to start.
I dunno, I’m reaching for moral victories.

Chris Tanev is again OUT! Alex Edler is day to day — so basically OUT! So guess what? You get Nikita Tryamkin and hopefully Troy Stecher because, as you know, he’s been recalled. If this is indeed factual, when does Alex Biega get moved/waived?
Ryan Miller gets the illustrious HNIC start against Canada’s team.

No signs of Frank Corrado in the lineup, so he’s pretty heartbroken I’m sure, about not facing his former team that threw him to the wayside. The Leafs are a lot better since the last time they played the Canucks and with Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mitch Marner depositing pucks into opponents nets on the regular, the Canucks may be easy pickings.
Frederik Anderson had a light practice Friday and will start against the Canucks.

GAME NOTES, STATS AND OTHER GREAT INFO
  • If the Columbus Blue Jackets can score 10 goals on the Canadiens, surely the Canucks can manage a goal at the very least versus the Leafs, right? The Leafs beat the Canucks 4-2 and 5-2 last season so trying to flip the switch might be a bit tough, regardless… I hate the Leafs.
  • Vancouver has killed their last 7 penalties so even though they aren’t scoring when they get undisciplined they aren’t letting in goals either.
  • Troy Stecher has been recalled. Has there been a more polarizing rookie in Vancouver in the last 10 years? Something about this guy that people just eat up. I don’t even think Bo Horvat got this kind of love.
  • Ryan Miller is 32-18-3 versus the Leafs all time. He also has a career .919 SA% against them so even he get’s up for these games.
  • Jake Virtanen introduced himself to Connor McDavid, who will say hello to Auston Matthews? Going 2 for 2 seems unlikely so my pick is emerging Russian superstar Nikita Tryamkin.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
Make that 165 including the Blue Jackets big win and whatever else the NHL scored last night.
MY TAKE
WILL THE CANUCKS WIN?
I can go back to being realistic for next game but the Canucks must beat the Leafs, there’s no other way to put it. They will win but probably in a shootout.
